Job Description:
We are looking to strengthen our engineering team at EUMETSAT, supporting the exploitation of EUMETSAT missions such as MSG, MTG, EPS, EPS-SG and Sentinel-3. The main focus is on MTG and EPS-SG.
The work centres on the development and verification of cloud products derived from satellite data, specifically cloud mask, cloud type, and cloud top height. Responsibilities also encompass snow/ice, dust, and volcanic ash detection, the generation of clear-sky reflectance climatologies, the production of all-sky radiance products, and support for active fire monitoring.

Key Responsibilities
Scientific Development
- Improve and evaluate cloud products scientifically
- Focus specifically on contributions to MTG and EPS-SG missions
- Develop prototype processors for MTG and EPS-SG
- Build hands-on experience with EUMETSAT's Level-2 processing systems
- Support the development of tools used to calibrate and validate satellite products
- Respond to requests from GEO and LEO programmes (e.g. reviews, documentation)
- Help verify the Level-2 processing systems for both MTG and EPS-SG
- Generate test datasets for MTG and EPS-SG activities
- Create test datasets to assess the impact of instrumental anomalies
- Contribute to the generation and validation of long-term climate data records
- Take part in studies and progress meetings, providing input on scientific content
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Good engineering background in related fields such as Earth observation, data processing, remote sensing etc.
- Level-2 processing of satellite data
- Solid background in Python (PyTroll), IDL, Matlab, C++, Java and Fortran on LINUX systems
- Scientific documentation and review participation
- Algorithm development/prototype development
- Fluency in English
