- Technical responsibility for mechanical sub-projects throughout all development phases - from concept through prototyping to series production readiness
- Active participation in pre-development and research activities in the mechanical domain
- Conducting internal design reviews as well as contributing technically to reviews of adjacent development projects
- Providing technical support and sparring for colleagues in concept development, design engineering, and constructive implementation
- Close collaboration in interdisciplinary teams from Research & Development, Production, Product Management, and Supply Chain
Must-haves: What you'll need for this role?
- Completed university degree in precision engineering, fine device engineering, mechanical engineering, medical engineering, or mechatronics
- Alternatively - with excellent qualifications - certification as a state-certified technician (or comparable), with prior vocational training in metalworking (e.g., toolmaker, technical draftsman, technical product designer, industrial mechanic)
- At least 7 years of professional experience in the mechanical design of technically demanding systems in an industrial environment, ideally involving small to medium production volumes
- Experience in the design and detailed engineering of precision mechanical systems
- In-depth knowledge of mechanisms, flexure hinges, and the design of thermally stable precision assemblies, including active thermal management
- Structured and self-reliant working style, with enthusiasm for technically challenging problems
What would be a plus in this role?
- Expertise in the design of complex optomechanical instruments or systems, aerospace systems, machine tools, or cryogenic instruments
- Experience with adhesive technologies and bonding processes, ideally in optics or precision bonding applications
- Knowledge of vibration analysis and vibration-robust design, particularly in the field of microvibrations
- Applied knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes, as well as design-to-cost and DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) principles
- Experience in using FEM simulations for the design and optimization of assemblies
It's a plus if you've heard of the following terms:
- Athermal design and thermal compensation
- Kinematic mounting and optical referencing
- Flexure hinges or compliant mechanisms
- Micromounting, active alignment, and precision adhesive bonding
- Microvibrations and vibration-robust design
- Design for Assembly and Manufacturing (DFMA)
