Approval Engineer - Maritime Materials & Welding
Your Team & Working Environment
You will join the Materials & Welding section, part of the Approval Centre Europe within Maritime Ship Classification.
- A team of 18 experienced engineers located in Hamburg, Hvik (Norway), and Gdynia (Poland)
- Close collaboration across borders in a professional, service-oriented setting
- Exposure to global customers, surveyors, and expert networks
- Work that combines technical depth, rule development, and practical problem-solving
The section covers:
- Metallic materials
- Welding technologies
- Nonmetallic materials used in the maritime industry
Your Key Responsibilities
As an Approval Engineer, you will play a central role in ensuring quality, safety, and compliance across the industry. Your tasks will include:
- Approval and certification of manufacturers of metallic materials
- Technical support to customers and DNV's global surveyor network
- Contribution to the development, maintenance, and updating of DNV rules and instructions
- Delivery of internal training within Materials & Welding
- Participation in international expert network meetings
We are looking for a motivated professional who enjoys combining deep technical expertise with collaboration and continuous learning.
Your background:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Materials Science
- 3-5 years of relevant professional experience
- Strong expertise in metallic materials and welding methods
- Qualification as International Welding Engineer (IWE) is an advantage
- Knowledge of nondestructive testing (NDT) methods is a plus
- Willingness to travel occasionally for customer and internal support
