Design Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Lead draughting and development activities for new drilling product development
• Develop and facilitate the delivery of engineering designs for drill rigs and auxiliary equipment, ensuring alignment with new technologies, safety standards, and best practices.
• Document designs, including 3D modeling, manufacturing drawings, process specifications and risk assessments.
• Undertake engineering calculations and design analysis to ensure design integrity and performance.
• Develop engineering scopes and specification documents for new product designs.
• Challenge the status quo to drive continuous improvement in equipment, products, and processes used in the field.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including peer engineers, operational personnel, maintenance teams, sourcing, suppliers, and product line managers.
• Create product and site support literature to aid in the implementation and troubleshooting of designs.
• Ensure designs are delivered within project timelines and budgets.
• Plan and oversee functional tests and final product inspections.
• Supervise and develop junior staff, providing direction and performance feedback.
• Support Sourcing sales and marketing with technical documentation and other information

Key Skills & Competencies

• 3D Modeling & CAD Management: Proficiency in Creo and Windchill for detailed design and drafting.
• Mechanical Engineering Expertise: Strong knowledge of mechanical stress analysis, fatigue strength, and surface wear principles.
• ANSYS Proficiency: Experience with ANSYS for simulation and analysis or similar would be benificial.
• Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills, including budget tracking and timeline estimation.
• Problem-Solving & Innovation: Ability to generate creative solutions for engineering challenges.
• Field Implementation: Experience in commissioning and supporting the implementation of designs in the field.
• Safety & Compliance Focus: A strong commitment to adhering to safety standards and company policies.

Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product design, State Certified Technician of Product Design, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
• Minimum [5] years of experience in product design and development preferably within drilling or related industries like Mining or Construction.

• Hydraulic design experience is highly desirable.
• Experience with 3D CAD modeling, preferably using Creo.
• An understanding of PLM systems (e.g., Windchill) is a plus.

Languages:
• German-nativ , Proficient in English is required
