The "Legal Services DHL Germany" department advises and supports the business units DGF, Freight, DSC, Express, and CSI in Germany on legal matters relating to freight, forwarding, warehousing, and logistics operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Subject Matter Law Senior Specialist (f/m/d)
Comprehensive legal advice for the business units (BU) DGF, Freight, DSC, EXPRESS, and CSI in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, particularly in the fields of freight, forwarding, warehousing, and logistics business.
- Legal advice for the BUs DGF, Freight, EXPRESS, DSC, and CSI, especially in civil, commercial, and business law, with a focus on transport and warehouse law
- Development of legal standards for Germany, as well as monitoring and preparing analyses on the implications of new developments, precedents, and/or legislative initiatives
- Conducting legal reviews and implementing results by assessing and adjusting standard contracts, framework agreements, and other arrangements
- Preparing legal opinions and providing legal assessment of measures
- Comprehensive assessment and advice, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating customer, project, and key account contracts, as well as outsourcing projects
- Advising on legal disputes of significant economic impact
- Negotiating with contractual partners
- Managing and collaborating with external law firms (e.g., in court proceedings), including preparing all necessary (court) documentation
- Providing assessments for the Legal department in the context of management decisions
- Collaboration with international Legal colleagues on global or multinational contract negotiations
- Supporting compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Monitoring and implementing new developments, especially in transport and warehouse law and related legal fields (e.g., insolvency law), including precedents and legislative initiatives
- Interpretation of new developments and implementation into contract templates
- Deriving recommendations for action
- Communication and consultation with relevant stakeholders and business units
- Reviewing compliance with general legal frameworks and with industry-specific regulations within the company
- Participation in international practice groups
- Development of global legal standards (e.g., changes to international conventions), and monitoring and analyzing the implications of new developments, precedents, and/or legislative initiatives
- Development of standards and best practices related to customer contracts or transport procurement contracts
- Preparing decision-making recommendations for management (e.g., Freight Management Board) concerning the assessment of legal risks
- Coordination and decision-making with international Legal colleagues regarding globally applicable standards (e.g., Contract Negotiation Guidelines)
- Supporting the implementation of the Legal digitalization strategy, particularly through the development of user portals (e.g., Legal Gateway) or other efficiency-enhancing tools
- Recommendations for strategic topics in the context of representing DHL Group in working groups and industry associations
- Conducting trainings and workshops for Legal colleagues on current topics (e.g., Freight Legal Academy), general contract law, and training of colleagues from operational units (e.g., during Sales conferences)
Professional Requirements
- Completed law degree (2nd state examination) or comparable qualification
- Many years of professional experience in commercial and contract law, gained as an in-house counsel or through advising companies with group structures, ideally with a focus on transport and warehousing law.
- Relevant experience in contract drafting and review
- Experience in managing external service providers and law firms
- Excellent German and English skills
