The Department of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology at RWTH Aachen is one of the leading research groups in Germany in various aspects of experimental and computational rock mechanics and rock engineering, with a strong focus on applied topics. Research areas range from underground excavation, induced seismicity, rock slope stability, and landslide dynamics to nuclear waste repositories, hydropower dam construction, and deep geothermal reservoir development. Your Profile

You are studying at a university or university of applied sciences and meet the following criteria:
  • Independent, reliable, flexible, and committed person
  • Ability to work and communicate in German or English
  • Ability to perform physical work (manual dexterity is an asset)
  • Willing to prepare samples by drilling and cutting (moderate physical work)
  • Willing to set up new lab experiments/calibration tests
  • Willing to perform rock mechanical tests and support experimental activities in the laboratory
  • Willing to perform data analysis

Your Duties and Responsibilities

Support our running projects on various projects to experimentally characterize rocks:

In the OPA project, samples must be processed and prepared, and preliminary tests on the samples must be conducted (research questions/work packages 1 & 2). This work requires approximately 3 months of effort, which is why the position is temporary for this duration.

What We Offer

The successful candidate will be employed as a student assistant.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 3 months.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 6-8 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 15.20 euros per hour.
