Institution

Chair and Institute of Communications Engineering

Our Profile

The Chair of Signal Processing in Communications Engineering investigates the interaction between multimedia signal processing, human perception and experience, and the associated sustainability of communications technology systems. Systems, primarily for audiovisual communications engineering, are systematically measured in order to feed the results back into system improvements - during ongoing operation or during system development. Various metrics are considered in relation to signal quality, human perception, user behaviour, cognitive performance, quality of experience and resource consumption (human resources, e.g. fatigue, "cybersickness"; energy and material consumption). The integrative research approach involves signal processing at different levels: in relation to the instances of messaging systems under consideration, at different points in the end-to-end chain, and in relation to an analysis of human-to-human and human-machine communication and interaction, based on different types of multimedia and biosignals as well as metadata. The research is currently investigating information systems for audiovisual and immersive communication and extended/virtual/mixed reality (XR) as well as corresponding communication networks.

We offer integration into a dedicated and research-oriented team, a diverse and exciting field of work with a positive working atmosphere and secure employment with flexible working hours.
