Lab manager/researcher (f/m/d, No. 264-26)
TV-L 14 (gross 61.723 € - 86.333 €)

Ferroic oxides constitute a versatile class of functional materials whose properties can be readily tuned through strain, doping, or external electric and magnetic fields. These tunable characteristics form the basis of the research carried out in the Functional Ferroic Systems group.

Your profile

We are seeking an established researcher with international experience to build up and manage a new FIB-SEM laboratory in the Faculty of Physics at the Duisburg Campus. The successful candidate's research activities should focus on FIB-SEM, with documented expertise in advanced nanostructuring, correlated (3D) imaging, and ferroelectric oxides. The work should complement the existing experimental investigations within the Functional Ferroic Systems group and ideally connect FIB-SEM activities to other microscopy techniques, including transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography. The successful candidate will also be expected to initiate additional research projects at UDE and to apply for external funding.

Applicants should have a relevant publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals, experience working in larger collaborative projects, and initial experience in supervising and mentoring students from the Master's to PhD level. A willingness to collaborate with other team members and research groups at UDE is essential.

Your profile:
  • A PhD degree in Materials Physics, Condensed Matter Physics or a related field
  • A strong background in ferroelectrics, multiferroics and functional oxides
  • Extensive hands-on experience with FIB-SEM and its application to ferroics
  • Experience in combing FIB with complementary characterization techniques, such as scanning probe microscopy and electrical measurements
  • Experience in laboratory setup and operation, including day-to-day lab management, is a plus
  • Fluent in oral and written English
  • A high degree of independence and a collaborative mindset

We offer you

- Employment in a multifaceted field of activity as part of research-intensive environment with international collaborations

- An interesting, responsible job with great creative potential

- A non-discriminatory working environment with respectful, appreciative cooperation

- A wide range of training and development opportunities, individual induction training

- Excellent public transport connections and free parking spaces

- Attractive sports and health offers (university sports)
