Doctoral Researcher (f/m/d), Scientific Staff Member (f/m/d) in the Field of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy: Smart miniaturized shimsets for NMR spectroscopy

Karlsruher Institut für Technologie
Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, Baden-Württemberg 76344, Germany Vollzeit
Reference: 261949069

Your Tasks

  • Designing and developing a discrete-component-based control circuit for driving the miniaturized NMR shimsets previously developed within the group
    ( https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.analchem.5c06167 ,
    https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.analchem.4c02965 ).
These shim drivers should be digitally programmable and incorporate digital-to-analog converters (DACs) as well as highly stable current sources.
  • Integrating the developed shim-driver electronics with the miniaturized shimsets and evaluating their performance in high-resolution NMR spectroscopy experiments.
  • Translating the discrete-component-based shim-driver circuitry into an integrated microelectronic chip using CMOS technology. Potential fabrication technologies include XH035 (X-FAB) and UMC180. The development process will involve schematic design, circuit simulation and optimization, as well as physical layout implementation. The final chip designs will be fabricated through a commercial semiconductor service.
  • Characterizing the electrical performance of the fabricated CMOS chips and integrating them with the miniaturized shimsets for high-resolution NMR spectroscopy applications.
  • Publishing research findings in high-impact scientific journals and presenting results at international conferences.

Your Profile

  • A completed university degree (Master's level) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Microsystems Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong expertise in electronics and CMOS circuit design.
  • Experience in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is advantageous.
