Company Overview

KLA is a global leader in diversified electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Virtually every electronic device in the world is produced using our technologies. No laptop, smartphone, wearable device, voice-controlled gadget, flexible screen, VR device or smart car would have made it into your hands without us. KLA invents systems and solutions for the manufacturing of wafers and reticles, integrated circuits, packaging, printed circuit boards and flat panel displays. The innovative ideas and devices that are advancing humanity all begin with inspiration, research and development. KLA focuses more than average on innovation and we invest 15% of sales back into R&D. Our expert teams of physicists, engineers, data scientists and problem-solvers work together with the world's leading technology providers to accelerate the delivery of tomorrow's electronic devices. Life here is exciting and our teams thrive on tackling really hard problems. There is never a dull moment with us.

Group/Division

The Office of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) plays a critical role in developing advanced long-range technology in collaboration with product divisions and strategic marketing, working on future technology like light sources, lasers, and sensors. We are engaged in the research and development process, and once the technology is mature, we partner with product engineering groups who then build products based on the technology we've developed. The Office of the CTO also provides technical input into KLA's strategic planning process, program reviews and Product Life Cycle (PLC) phases. We provide our broad technology expertise and cross-division experience to ensure we leverage the collective knowledge within our company.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

KLA is hiring an Opto-mechanical Engineer to join our CTO Optical Development group. In this role, you will play a key part in shaping KLA's optical technology roadmap, driving the development of next-generation optomechanical systems for semiconductor process control. You will enable ultra-high-NA optical solutions across a broad spectrum-from EUV to NIR-under extreme precision, stability, and environmental constraints.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop advanced optomechanical architectures across EUV, VUV, DUV, VIS, and NIR systems
  • Define and optimize optical mounting, alignment strategies, and system error budgets
  • Perform detailed thermal and structural analyses using FEM tools
  • Conduct vibration analyses (modal, PSD, harmonic response) to ensure system stability
  • Execute CFD simulations to assess airflow and thermal management concepts
  • Lead material selection, bonding/cementing approaches, and long-term stability design
  • Ensure compliance with cleanliness, photocontamination, and stray light requirements
  • Develop solutions for operation in vacuum and cleanroom environments
  • Drive prototyping, system integration, and experimental validation
  • Define and implement optical alignment concepts and tooling (e.g., autocollimators, wavefront sensors)
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams and high-end external suppliers

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications
  • MSc or PhD in Mechanical, Optomechanical Engineering, or related field
  • ≥5 years of experience in high-precision optical system development
  • Strong experience with high-NA optical systems (EUV/DUV/VUV preferred)
  • Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS Mechanical, CREO, SolidWorks, FEM platforms)
  • Deep understanding of thermal, structural, and material behavior in precision systems
  • Familiarity with advanced manufacturing and precision engineering technologies
  • Proven track record in supplier collaboration, prototyping, and system realization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

What Drives Success
  • Hands-on, innovation-driven mindset with a passion for pushing technical boundaries
  • Strong system-level thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in cutting-edge R&D environments with high complexity
  • Collaborative, solution-oriented approach across disciplines and organizations
