At the University of Greifswald's Department of British and North American Studies, Chair of English Didactics in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, there is a job vacancy expected to be available from 1 October 2026, subject to budgetary regulations, for a part-time (50%)
Teaching Associate.
The position on offer is permanent. Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft .
Our institute brings together teaching and research in multiple ways to support the education of our students, including those enrolled in all teacher education programmes for English. In both its teaching and research activities, the team in English Language Teaching (ELT) didactics addresses a wide range of areas concerned with the teaching and learning of English in school contexts. These include, in particular, (early) foreign language learning, the design and investigation of English instruction across different school types, the use of analogue and digital materials, a variety of approaches to classroom practice in English lessons, and the professional development of teachers. The position advertised here focuses primarily on teaching responsibilities within the primary education teacher training programme for English.

Job description:
- academic teaching-related duties; the teaching load is based on the regulations of the LVVO M-V (currently envisaged: 7 LVS à 45 min.), with a primary focus on the primary teacher education programme
- designing courses in coordination with the English language didactics team
- developing appropriate assessment formats and examination procedures, and conducting examinations across all programmes in English language didactics
- supervising and supporting school-based practical training phases
- participation in committees and bodies of academic self-governance
Job requirements:
- at the time of appointment, a university degree completed with at least a "good" grade in a teacher education programme (e.g. First State Examination, Master of Education, or an equivalent qualification) with English as a teaching subject
- at least good English language proficiency (C1) and very good German language proficiency (C1), both written and spoken
Desirable:
- in-depth subject-specific pedagogical knowledge in English language teaching, with a focus on pedagogical and methodological approaches to early foreign language learning
- Teaching experience in schools (e.g., professional experience as an English teacher, completed second state examination or equivalent by the time of appointment), preferably in primary/elementary education
- Teaching experience at the university level
- PhD in English language teaching (ELT) or primary/elementary education pedagogy
