Key responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to effective project results in technology, software, product, and solution development, as well as associated Intellectual Property (IP). Each day, you will act as the first point of contact in Research and Development for specific product-related issues and maintenance. You will also showcase your skills by identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative solutions.
This role is contributing to KNX Building Automation as part of Smart Buildings Business Area inABB, inHeidelberg (or Ludenscheid), Germany.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Contributing to innovation projects, ensuring quality, time, and performance targets are met
Building and maintaining expertise in home and building automation, continuously integrating new technologies, tools, and methodologies into your work
Encouraging problem-solving and innovation by developing ideas, forming hypotheses, and validating them through structured approaches
Creating and maintaining high-quality technical documentation (e.g., designs, code, and findings) to ensure long-term maintainability and knowledge sharing
Supporting intellectual property (IP) creation, identifying patent opportunities and contributing to IP strategy within your area of expertise
You will join a collaborative and highly motivated team, where you will be able to thrive
Qualifications for the role
Enhanced programming skills in C/C++ for embedded systems, with several years of experience in low-level development and hardware interaction
Proficiency in embedded development tools (e.g., cross-compilers, debuggers, IDEs such as VS Code, and build systems like DevOps)
Experience with version control systems, particularly Git, including branching, merging, and collaborative workflow
Team-oriented mindset with experience working in agile development environments and cross-functional teams
Good problem-solving abilities and communication skills, with an organized approach to software development
Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or related field
Fluent in German and conversational in English
