Senior Costing Specialist (m/f/d)

Job Description

Location: Berlin, Amsterdam or Eppelheim/Heidelberg

We are looking for a Senior BU Costing & Business Process Specialist to strengthen our Controlling organization.
This role is not designed as a purely operational costing position for one dedicated site. Instead, the position combines strong hands-on expertise in product costing, SAP/ERP processes, and inventory valuation with a broader focus on process improvement, digitalization, automation, reporting enhancement, and business partnering.

The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert for costing and related SAP/ERP processes, provide operational backup support when required, and actively contribute to improvement initiatives, system rollouts, upgrades and cross-functional projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level support for standard costing, product costing, inventory valuation, and COGS-related processes across the Business Unit.
  • Ensure continuity and quality of key costing processes, including SAP CO-PC month-end close activities, standard cost reviews, transfer price calculations and inventory valuation.
  • Maintain and support standard Cost of Goods Sold processes within SAP workflows and ensure alignment with internal control and SOX requirements.
  • Analyze standard price variances, production cost deviations and inventory valuation impacts, and determine required corrective actions.
  • Review transfer price calculations according to existing guidelines, ensuring appropriate documentation, compliance and approval of exceptions.
  • Act as a business partner and internal consultant for Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, IT and other functional areas on costing-related processes and SAP/ERP topics.
  • Drive and support improvement initiatives related to costing processes, tools, reporting, automation and data transparency.
  • Develop and enhance reporting solutions to improve cost transparency, product margin analysis, COGS reporting, and management decision-making.
  • Support the design and implementation of new business processes with strong SAP/ERP integration requirements.
  • Participate in SAP/ERP release product teams, system rollouts, upgrades, implementations and process harmonization initiatives.
  • Act as a backup for operational costing activities in case of sickness, vacation, project assignments, or other absences within the team.


Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Controlling, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience within Finance, Controlling, Cost Accounting or Product Costing.
  • Strong hands-on experience in product costing, standard costing, inventory valuation, and COGS-related processes.
  • Experience in international and multi-site manufacturing or process-oriented environments.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel. Experience with reporting or analytics tools is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to translate complex SAP/ERP data into clear business insights.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Business fluent English; additional languages are an advantage.
  • Broad financial expertise in: Controlling; Cost accounting; Product costing and pricing; Inventory valuation; Financial and operational processes; Month-end closing activities; Business process improvement.
  • Strong SAP knowledge, particularly in: SAP CO / CO-PC - Controlling / Product Costing; SAP MM - Materials Management; SAP PP - Production Planning; SAP FI integration points; SAP Material Ledger / inventory valuation processes.
  • Experience with SAP/ERP rollouts, system upgrades, process implementations or release/product teams is highly desirable.
