We're looking for a highly qualified senior client coverage banker within HSBC's Corporate & Institutional Banking business. Being part of HSBC in Germany, you'll help evolve and grow our Institutional Client Group (ICG) business as a Director, Institutional Client Group, with a specific focus on clients in the Banks sector.

Role responsibility
- Develop and deepen senior client relationships with key decision makers (up to C-suite level) at Bank clients, particularly those headquartered in Germany, with a primary base in Frankfurt.
- Own and drive client coverage for a defined portfolio of bank clients, including responsibility for origination, relationship management, and overall client strategy.
- Create and implement client plans that deliver strategic priorities and drive sustainable revenue growth within our risk and balance sheet appetite.
- Leverage the full range of HSBC's product capabilities and international network to deliver solutions across lending, transaction banking, markets, and advisory (as applicable).
- Maintain a strong understanding of sector dynamics, regulatory and macro trends impacting banks, and competitor activity, sharing insights with stakeholders to shape our approach.
In this role you will
- Proactively develop an understanding of clients' business models, strategic priorities, funding and liquidity needs, and risk considerations, translating these into actionable coverage plans.
- Collaborate across HSBC (coverage, product, risk, operations and other stakeholders) to deliver joined-up solutions and a consistent client experience.
- Serve as a line manager within the team, setting expectations, sharing best practices, and developing colleagues to maximise performance and build capability.
- Drive customer satisfaction and cost containment, whilst meeting the Group conduct outcomes.
- Be accountable for financial and non-financial risk for your client portfolio, including credit, operational and reputational risk.
- Deliver fair outcomes for customers and ensure our conduct supports the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.
- Support the broader ICG coverage team through client planning, client briefings, revenue delivery against targets, and coaching of more junior colleagues.
You should apply if you have
- Significant experience covering financial institutions, with a proven track record of developing and maintaining senior relationships with Banks clients
- Demonstrable ability to engage decision makers as a trusted advisor, including at Board/C-suite level.
- Strong understanding of the European banking landscape, market structure, and key macro/regulatory trends.
- Working knowledge of relevant financial products and solutions used by bank clients.
- Strong risk management capability, including credit and financial crime risk awareness, plus operational risk discipline.
- A solutions-oriented mindset, strong ownership, and effective problem-solving skills.
- Leadership capability with an ability to empower and motivate high-performing individuals.
- Fluency in English and German is essential.

- Tariff grading: The compensation is governed by the collective agreement for the private banking sector (Tarifvertrag für das private Bankgewerbe).
- Non-Tariff grading: For roles outside the tariff structure, HSBC offers multiple variable pay plans, to reflect the diverse nature of the businesses, roles and markets in which we operate. Variable pay is designed to reward colleagues for their individual performance and contribution, as well as the performance of their relevant Business / Infrastructure, and the overall Group.
