Associate Researcher, Global Programs

The ICCT has an immediate opening fora highly motivated and committed Associate Researcherto join the organization'sGlobalProgram.The Associate Researcherwill work with theProgram's Global Analysis and Policy Support team to supportdevelopment ofgovernmentregulations and policies thataddressthe climate and health effects ofon-roadtransportation,particularly light-duty vehicles.Thispersonwill conduct robust research and analysesto evaluatepolicies to improve vehicle efficiency and accelerate uptake of electric vehicles(EVs)andsupport team efforts to track the global EV transition.This person will report to the ICCT's Global Program Lead and willalso workclosely with specific ICCT Regional teams,for example inLatin America and Africa.
You will:
- Inform the development of vehicle regulations and other policies by producing objective, high-quality technical and regulatory design analyses
- Review and learn vehicle regulations across global markets and apply best practices in informing new policies
- Analyze government policy proposals to project impacts on vehicle technology deployment, greenhouse gas emissions, and consumer costs/benefits
- Collect, clean, analyze, and interpret large datasets, and translate findings into clear technical outputs and policy-relevant insights
- Trackvehicle regulations,electric vehicle adoption, charging infrastructure deployment, and adoption of related policies around the world
- Write clear and concise technical reports, policy briefs, articles, and internal memos
- Explain regulations and present findings in public and private forums

Collaborate effectively with the ICCT's GlobalandRegionalteams
You have:
- An advanced degree(Mastersor PhD or equivalent)in engineering, environmental science, publicpolicy,economics,transportation or a related discipline, OR a bachelor's degree plus at least two-yearswork experiencein the above-mentioned field(s)
- Experienceanalyzingvehicle regulations, such as CO2standards, fuel consumption standards,emissions standards, and"EVAvailabilityStandards"(desired)
- Familiarity with vehiclepowertrains, including internal combustion engine, battery-electric, and plug-in hybrid electricvehicles; emissioncontrol technologiesandtypeapprovalprocess
- Demonstrated skills in data collection, research,literature review,analyticalrigor, and drawing conclusions from analytical research
- Proficiencyin Excel; Python or R skills desired
- Basic familiarity with standard AI tools, such as Claude, Copilot, and ChatGPT
- Strong English communication-both written and verbal- and presentationskills. Reading and writingproficiencyin a second language isa plus
- The ability to work independently with limited supervision, being highly organized, self-directed,quick-learning,creative, and strategic in problem-solving
- Availability for occasional work travel
What we offer:
Our preference is for the candidate to work out of our office in the heart of Berlin, Germany. However, followingan initial6-month orientation training in our Berlin office, we alsoprovide the opportunity for the candidateto work from anywhere else within Germany, France,Irelandor Sweden, with the requirement to regularly visit the Berlin office. This position offers an annual starting of70,000 Euro (40 hours/week if working from Germany), depending on your level of experience.We offeran initial2-year contract, with the possibility of extension depending on organizational resources and performance.
