Student Assistant (m/w/d) at the Chair of Numerical Mathematics (M2), CIT

The position would be for up to 20 hours/week (to be discussed), starting 1 October 2026 for a duration of 3 months, with the possibility of extension.

Typical responsibilities you can expect:

- Mathematical derivation, analysis, and comparison of models, methods, and simulation approaches
- Formal proofs, e.g., for convergence, existence, and uniqueness of solutions
- Fast prototyping of new ideas in individual code
- Implementation of new models, methods, and algorithms into an existing framework, with a focus on efficiency
- Design and realization of relevant simulation pipelines: from real-world data to mathematically and (e.g., clinically) applicable results

Requirements - What you bring:
- Enrolment as a Master's student in Mathematics, Computational Science and Engineering (CSE), Informatics, or a related field
- Solid programming skills in Python
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of functional analysis
- Knowledge of the finite element method
- Basic understanding of mathematical modeling with and/or partial differential equations
- A team-oriented, structured, and organized work approach
- Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary projects

Desirable - Optional, but helpful:
- Programming experience in C/C++
- Experience with finite element frameworks such as Firedrake and FEniCS
- Knowledge of German
