In the Laser Reference division, you will combine laser physics, optics, and control engineering to develop demanding laser systems for applications in frequency metrology and quantum technologies. You will accompany innovative solutions from the initial idea all the way through to the finished product.

Development Engineer R&D Laser Reference

What can you expect in this role?

• Development and qualification of complex laser systems, such as ULE-cavity-stabilized diode lasers and optical frequency combs
• Technical responsibility for development projects - from initial concept and prototype build through qualification and transfer to series production
• Translating customer and product requirements into innovative technical solutions
• Close collaboration with mechanical design, electronics, software, production, and service teams
• Identification of new technologies, components, and suppliers
• Analysis and resolution of challenging technical issues as part of a team
• Maintenance, optimization, and further development of existing products

Must-haves: What you'll need for this role?

• Completed degree in physics, photonics, optics, electrical engineering, or a comparable technical or scientific field
• Experience in the development or research of laser systems and/or control engineering
• Interest in optical frequency metrology and quantum technologies
• Independent, structured, and solution-oriented approach to work
• Strong teamwork skills, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for technical innovation
• Very good command of English

What would be a plus in this role?

• Experience with optical frequency combs, high-finesse cavities, or highly stable laser systems
• Knowledge of control engineering for applications in optical frequency metrology and quantum technologies, e.g. in the areas of optical frequency combs,
• high-finesse cavities, quantum optics, or highly stable laser systems
• Programming experience, e.g. with Python
• PhD or initial professional experience in a relevant technical field
• Experience in developing products for scientific applications
• Very good command of German
