Welcome to Hahn-Schickard: The research center for innovative microsystems technology. With a team of over 300 employees, we transform ideas into cross-industry solutions - from conception to production at three locations in Baden-Württemberg. At our Freiburg site, the emphasis is on developing analytical solutions in microsystems technology, particularly for point-of-care diagnostics.
For the area of Microfluidic Platforms in Freiburg, we offer from 01.10.2026

For the area of Microfluidic Platforms in Freiburg, we offer from 01.10.2026
Master Thesis for Single Cell Analysis in Microfluidic Well Arrays for Cancer Immunotherapy (m/f/x)
Aim of the thesis
- Tumor infiltrating leucocytes (TIL) isolated from tumor tissue are promising for cancer therapy. TILs must be analyzed prior to therapeutic use.
- The goal of the thesis is to demonstrate how single TILs can be isolated in individual picoliter-microwells for later analysis on the single-cell level.
- Concept Development: Literature research and systematic development of concepts for TIL single-cell-distribution in an existing microfluidic microtiter plate.
- Model Establishment: Find a suitable model for TIL cells for initial tests (e.g. microbeads or cell lines).
- Protocol Development: Test and optimize your own concepts in the lab including reference assays such as ELISA or digital PCR.
Your profile
- Studies: Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Medical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline with strong interest for life sciences.
- Skills: Lab experience (pipetting, microscopy, cell handling) required, experience with microfluidic systems or image analysis is a plus.
- Work Style: Independent and structured.
- Language: Good English or German
Our offer to you
- Innovative working environment: State-of-Art research institute with close links to industry
- Future-proof career: a wide range of possible assignments during and after your studies
- Training & Development: Benefit from attractive further training opportunities
- Health and lifestyle: Participation in first-class health programs such as Hansefit and other benefit programs
- Subsidy for meals
- Mobility support: partial refund of travel expenses while using public transport ÖPNV
